NCDMM-Huntsville

Welcomes Mike Docherty as Director of Manufacturing Technology to Lead Huntsville Office

Blairsville, Pa. — June 13, 2019. The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) proudly announces the opening of its newest office in Huntsville, Ala., to provide enhanced support to and greater engagement with the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) Aviation & Missile Center in Redstone Arsenal, Ala.

The CCDC Aviation & Missile Center, formerly known as AMRDEC, conducts research, exploratory and advanced development, and one-stop lifecycle engineering support for aviation and missile weapons systems and unmanned aerial and ground vehicle platforms. Today, it is also one of eight science and technology domains within the newly formed U.S. Army Futures Command, which has the mission to ensure decisive overmatch for unified land operations to empower the Army, the joint warfighter, and the nation.

With the addition of this new office, NCDMM now has a total of four locations: its headquarters in Blairsville, Pa. and its offices in Chambersburg, Pa., Youngstown, Ohio, and Huntsville, Ala.

“Since our inception, the CCDC Aviation & Missile Center has been a key partner of NCDMM’s,” said Dean L. Bartles, Ph.D., NCDMM President and Chief Executive Officer. “During this time, we’ve partnered together on numerous projects that have resulted in significant cost savings/avoidance while improving parts, processes, and equipment used by the warfighter. NCDMM’s decision to open an office in Huntsville was solely based on wanting to enable greater collaboration and develop a deeper strategic relationship with the U.S. Army by having an onsite presence to further support the execution of ongoing projects.”

Leading the NCDMM office at 7027 Old Madison Pike, NW, Suite 108, Huntsville, AL 35806, is new hire, Mike Docherty. Mr. Docherty will serve as NCDMM’s Director of Manufacturing Technology, reporting directly to Jim Fisher, NCDMM Executive Director of Advanced Manufacturing.

“On behalf of all of us at NCDMM, I am proud to welcome Mike to our team,” said Mr. Fisher. “He brings extensive manufacturing, business, and defense experience to NCDMM. I am confident that Mike will be a tremendous asset to our organization, as well as the U.S. Army, representing NCDMM in our new Huntsville location.”

Mr. Docherty brings more than 25 years of Department of Defense program/project management experience across all services, including air, ground, naval, and weapons platforms with a focus on the transition of advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance military performance, increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve sustainability. By working across the RDT&E, Acquisition, Requirements, and Sustainment communities, Mr. Docherty has a proven track record of leading diverse and complex projects to successful outcomes.

Most recently, Mr. Docherty served as the Senior Director of Survivability at Enterprise Ventures Corporation in Huntsville and was responsible for project/program management, new product launches, and expansion of technical services to the U.S. Army. Prior, Mr. Docherty was employed by Concurrent Technologies Corporation in Johnstown, Pa., serving as the Senior Director.

Mr. Docherty holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, and an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix. He is also a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

Of NCDMM’s new Huntsville office, Amy Lawrence, Ph.D., Chief, Manufacturing Science and Technology (MS&T) Division, CCDC Aviation & Missile Center, Engineering Directorate said, “Since its founding, NCDMM has delivered innovative services and solutions that have positively impacted and supported the ManTech mission. I look forward to our long-standing, strategic partnership with NCDMM evolving to the next level with the opening of its Huntsville office. The ability to readily interface with Mike will enhance our collaborative efforts on a multitude of projects.”
