NCDMM Congratulates Dr. Dean Bartles on His Appointment as the Next President of the National Tooling and Machining Association

Blairsville, Pa. — August 30, 2018. The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) proudly congratulates NCDMM Board of Director, Dean Bartles, Ph.D., FSME, FASME, on his recent appointment as the next President of the National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA), succeeding the retiring Dave Tilstone in this position.

“On behalf of all of us at NCDMM and America Makes, we extend our congratulations to our friend and colleague Dr. Bartles on joining the NTMA as its next President,” said Ralph Resnick, NCDMM President and Chief Executive Office and America Makes Founding Director. “The NTMA is dedicated to helping members of the U.S. precision custom manufacturing industry achieve profitable growth and business success in the global manufacturing economy. I can think of no one more ideally suited to take on this mission than Dr. Bartles, bringing nearly 40 years of manufacturing experience to NTMA. We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Bartles and the NTMA as we share a common goal of advancing and innovating the U.S. manufacturing industry for its economic success.”

Based in Cleveland, Ohio, the NTMA is a non-profit, trade organization that has served the needs of manufacturing companies for more than 60 years. NTMA is focused on helping its membership base, comprised mostly of small- to medium-sized manufacturing companies, many of them privately held and family owned, compete in the domestic and global economy.

“NTMA is composed of some of the most knowledgeable, experienced, and competitive companies in the manufacturing sector,” said Dr. Bartles. “I’m excited to join the association at this critical time for manufacturing. There is no more important issue today than addressing the shortage of skilled labor that our members and all manufacturers are experiencing.”

Prior to joining NTMA, Dr. Bartles recently served as the Director of the John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center at the University of New Hampshire and was previously the founding Executive Director of the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute in Chicago. He also worked for General Dynamics Corporation for 30 years, setting up and running manufacturing operations in Egypt, Turkey, and the U.S. He began his career at Fairchild Republic Company.

Additionally, he previously served as the 2016-2017 President of the North American Manufacturing Research Institute, the 2016 President of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the founding Chairman of the Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition, and as NCDMM’s Chairman of the Board.

Dr. Bartles graduated from Shepherd College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and holds an MBA from Shippensburg University and a master’s degree in international business from Tampa College. He also earned a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from Nova Southeastern University and a Ph. D. in Technology Management with a concentration in advanced Manufacturing Systems from Indiana State University.
