NCDMM Announces New LLC in Youngstown to Support Northeast Ohio Manufacturers

The Advanced Manufacturing and Applied Research Innovation Institute is Seeking Open Project Solicitations

AMARII logoBlairsville, Pa. — October 8, 2020. The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM), a subsidiary of Manufacturing Technology Deployment Group, Inc. (MTDG), proudly announces the creation of a new Limited Liability Company (LLC), the Advanced Manufacturing and Applied Research Innovation Institute (AMARII). The wholly owned subsidiary of NCDMM will be based in Youngstown, Ohio, and will work to further advance manufacturing technologies to strengthen the manufacturing industry and economy of northeast Ohio.

The mission of AMARII is to solicit project ideas that, if successful, will enhance technologies of northeast Ohio companies, making them more competitive and encouraging job retention and growth. AMARII will assess these potential projects from the region to determine if it is feasible to assist organizations with connecting with potential funding sources.

Today’s announcement was made earlier this morning at an event in Youngstown in which Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) was in attendance.

“The creation of AMARII is an essential resource for allowing our area to continue to capitalize on my position as Vice Chair of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee,” said Congressman Ryan. “Between the NCDMM, AMARII, America Makes, federal research laboratories, our universities, our incubators and our local businesses, we are positioning our area to be a hub for advanced manufacturing and energy storage research that will turn the Mahoning Valley into the Voltage Valley and bring with it thousands of high-paying jobs.”

The executive team of AMARII will be comprised of NCDMM and MTDG leadership with oversight from an advisory board. NCDMM VP and Chief Development Officer Randy Gilmore will serve as Chairman of the Advisory Board, with the remainder of the Board comprised of representatives from local economic organizations, including the Youngstown Business Incubator, Western Reserve Port Authority, and Eastgate Regional Council of Governments.

“AMARII is going to build upon the northeast Ohio region’s rich tradition of manufacturing expertise and ongoing economic revitalization efforts,” said Mr. Gilmore. “By working with the region’s manufacturers to catalyze project ideas, match them with funding opportunities, and develop innovative technologies and a skilled workforce, AMARII will help the northeast Ohio region realize its potential of becoming the national hub for advanced manufacturing.”

As part of today’s event, AMARII also announced it is soliciting an open call on project ideas that address such topics as manufacturing, machining, process improvement, automation, supply chain enhancement, energy and energy efficiency, technology enhancement, and cost reduction. Submitted project ideas that support AMARII’s mission and demonstrate the ability to advance manufacturing technologies, promote job growth and retention, and strengthen economic competitiveness will receive priority consideration.

To submit a project idea, fill out the AMARII Technology Advancement Topic Submission Form found on the AMARII website. Submissions are due no later than Friday, October 30th by 11:59 p.m. EDT.

AMARII will connect regional manufacturers with promising project ideas with its vast network of contacts at potential funding sources, including the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, the Office of Economic Adjustment, and regional, state, and local agencies.
