NCDMM has been a long-standing supporter of the work of the MTConnect Institute and AMT—The Association of Manufacturing Technology to promote MTConnect, an open, royalty-free set of communications standards that provides data in structured XML rather than proprietary formats.
The goal of MTConnect is to harness the enormous amount of data generated by a multitude of manufacturing equipment through the development of MTConnect-based applications. To this end, the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Defense-wide Manufacturing Science and Technology (DMS&T), in partnership with the Department of Defense, has sponsored “Challenges,” targeting both industry and students, managed by the NCDMM, in conjunction with the U.S. ARDEC-Army Benét Labs, AMT, and the MTConnect Institute, to develop manufacturing solutions using the MTConnect protocol. At the conclusion of the Challenges, more than $280,000 have be awarded.
