About > President’s Message

John Vankirk NCDMM PresidentWelcome to the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) website. Our mission is to promote the use of cost effective manufacturing solutions for use by U.S. based producers of current, and future, Department of Defense (DoD) systems. This entails identifying, integrating and transferring state-of-the-art manufacturing solutions. We take pride in reducing manufacturing and machining costs, which allows more hardware and supplies to be available for our troops in defense of this nation.

The NCDMM works closely with all DoD organizations as well as DoD suppliers to identify opportunities where process improvements will lead to significant cost savings or removal of critical bottlenecks. Then, NCDMM’s in-house manufacturing experts, along with a vast network of Alliance Partners, develop and transition to the shop floor improved manufacturing and machining technologies and methodologies. To date, NCDMM projects have produced over $478 million in cost savings or avoidance for the DoD and its supply base.
Our Alliance Partners are U.S. owned companies who are established technological leaders in a related manufacturing field.  These organizations take an active role in identifying, developing, demonstrating and deploying new solutions in partnership with the NCDMM. To date, over 80 Alliance Partners are working with us; visit our Alliance Partner page for a complete listing. If your organization is interested in partnering with the NCDMM, please contact us for details.

The NCDMM has developed a successful Regional Consortium model of small job shops interested in participating in the government supply chain. Initially piloted in western Pennsylvania, this Regional model has motivated the investment of over $100 million in new DoD projects in the region. This model will now be expanded to address small shops in other selected regions of the U.S.

We welcome you to review our web site.  You will see a number of projects we have completed and the benefits that have been realized listed on our Manufacturing Solutions page. If you would like to learn more, or have a need for NCDMM services, please contact us.
